HKDSE German – How it works

From 2025 onwards, students taking Category C (Other Languages) in the HKDSE must submit results from designated international language exams, as recognized by the HKEAA. Among all the options, German stands out as a top choice. It combines Europe’s most widely spoken language with its largest economy and rich culture, offering lifelong opportunities in study and career.

DSLC is here to bridge that gap with a dedicated HKDSE-focused German program. Unlike our regular Young People’s Courses, this program is exam-driven, with structured homework, mock exams, and targeted preparation so students can walk into the official exam with confidence.

For German, the recognized qualification is the Goethe-Zertifikat, aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), from level A1 to C2. Students must achieve A2 level or above. The examination includes 4 modules: listening, writing, speaking and reading, so thorough preparation is essential.

Passing these exams requires not only language knowledge but also exam strategies and consistent practice, exactly what DSLC specializes in delivering!

Learning pathway & progress

DSLC follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), offering a complete pathway from A1 (Beginner) to C2 (Proficiency), in line with the requirements of the HKDSE.

For HKDSE Preparation Courses, students may choose between:
Regular Course: one 2-hour class per week, with 9 classes per course
Fast Track Course: two 2-hour classes per week on one or two weekdays, with 8 classes per course

For example:
* a 9-week Regular Course on Wednesday evening with 2 hours each Wednesday
* a 4-week Fast Track Course on Sunday morning and afternoon with 2 x 2 = 4 hours each Sunday, and a lunch-break in between.

This flexibility allows students to select the pace that best fits their school schedule and exam timeline.

FAQs

Q1. How is the DSLC HKDSE Program different from your regular young people’s courses?
Our young people’s courses focus on general language ability and cultural exposure. The HKDSE Program is exam-focused: more structured homework, regular mock tests, targeted exam preparation, and a higher learning speed.

Q2. Who are the teachers?
All classes are taught by qualified native speakers with experience in international exam preparation, ensuring authentic training and effective strategies.

Q3. Will there be extra support outside of class?
Yes. Students receive detailed feedback on their homework, and parents will be regularly updated about their child's learning progress.

Q4. How long does it take to prepare for the exam?
DSLC offers regular and fast-track options to match each student's timeline. Beginner students will need around 8 months (Fast Track courses) or 18 months (Regular courses) of consistent study to complete the A2 level. For students with previous knowledge of German, that time will be shorter depending on the starting level.

Q5. How do I know if my child is ready to join?
We provide a free assessment to evaluate readiness and recommend the right entry point and study plan.
